PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical system, where each add drop multiplexer can provide an add/drop function for a different WDM channel and a plurality of the ADMs are connected in parallel between an optical demultiplexer and a multiplexer for each wavelength multiplex channel, in a switching node in a wavelength multiplex (WDM) communication system. SOLUTION: One of the problems accompanying a present arrangement requires provision of an additional optical switching function, when switching of communication traffic from one optical channel to another is needed. This system provides a branch port to provide interconnection of the ADMs. Thus, a message and data from one of WDM channels are switched to other one of the WDM channels via the existing ADM branch port. |
