A smart card-type entity (CP) comprises an application layer (AP) connected to a communication protocol layer (PR) contains a time manager (GD) including a time meter (CD) interfaced with the protocol layer (PR) to establish substantially periodically for waiting time extension requests (WTX) transmitted to a terminal (TE) through the protocol layer as long as data are being processed in the application layer.
