The harvested leaves are introduced into a dryer (1) normally used for continuous drying, such as a hops dryer. The moving conveyor belt (2) is loaded and moved continuously into the dryer until the leaves are spread out over the entire length and then the forward drive of the belt is stopped. After a programmable dwell time in the dryer of from 10 to 100 minutes at a drying temperature of 20 to 100 degrees with the supply of hot air the drive is then restarted and the dried material emptied. At the same time as emptying or at another time the new load is supplied. Independent claim describes device with manually or automatically programmable drive and drying intervals. The dryer has a conveyor belt and a movable delivery belt (6).
