The method involves detecting a physical parameter correlated with a force caused by the driving wind, altering the roof position from a second relative position into a first relative position with a roof drive depending on the detected parameter in opposition to the force of the wind. The correlating parameter can be a change in roof position and/or wind noise. Independent claims are also included for the following: a controller for operating a lifting roof system, especially a sliding/lifting roof system and a sliding/lifting roof system.
