A single protein which is the principle of the PGE2 synthesis activity in a soluble fraction of the brain of rat with the administration of LPS is purified and identified. This protein has an activity of synthesizing PGE2 form PGH2 and, further, an activity of synthesizing PGE2 from arachidonic acid in consort with COX.
