The appliance has a jointing tool (4) connected via a holder to a holder frame. A deflector mass (8) is located on the side of a holder (6) of a jointing tool, facing in a direction away from the movement direction of the tool. The deflector mass has a slightly spherical impact face, and it is guided via a bending spring (18) with adjustable tension. The natural frequency of a vibrating system if within a range of 35-65%, pref. approx. 50% of the impact frequency of the striking tool.
