Two or more capacitors (17,18) are linked to a voltage reference voltage supply (3) through blocking diodes (14,15). Their other terminals are connected to switches (19,20), which, acting in opposition, connect them alternately to the voltage supply and a reference voltage (4). Consequently the voltage across any capacitor is no higher than twice the difference between supply and reference voltages and the switches have to withstand only low voltages.
