<p>1,173,084. Sliding clasp fasteners. OPTIHOLDING A.G. 17 Feb., 1967 [3 March, 1966], No. 7713/67. Heading E2S. A sliding clasp fastener comprises two stringer tapes 1 each with an interlocking element 2 having teeth 3 with interlocking heads 4, the teeth protruding through perforations 5 in a portion upturned from the main portion of the tape and the element partially overlying the main portion, a bead-like thickening 6 along the edge of the upturned portion overlying the interlocking element on its face opposite that partially overlying the main portion to restrain the teeth from movement in one transverse direction with respect to the tape, and means 8 associated with the teeth to restrain the teeth from movement in the opposite direction with respect to the tape. In the construction shown the perforations are provided by omitting a number of the warp threads in the weaving of each stringer tape. The beadlike thickening of each stringer tape can be provided by incorporating one or more cords or strips during the weaving of the tape. Each element is made from a single filament of plastics material wound into a coil each head being wider than the remainder of its turn of the coil so that shoulders are formed which assist in locating the element in the perforations; the means 8 is a core inserted through the turns of the coil the weft threads of the stringer tape abutting against the core. Each tape can be made of or include material which can be caused to shrink either by a wet treatment or by applying heat depending upon the material and by causing such a tape to shrink the threads of the tape are caused to grip the element firmly. Instead of the core 8 the element can be provided with recesses or projections for engagement by the threads of the tape.</p> |
