The existing problems in separating linerless labels from each other after exiting a printer (such as a thermal printer) are minimized or avoided by using a blunt protrusion (21) adjacent the label discharge opening from the printer. The linerless labels (15) are separated from each other by perforation lines (27) and a slit (28) substantially centrally positioned in each perf line (27). Edge slits (38) are preferably also provided. After imaging the top face of a label (15) and discharge from the printer (10) the discharged label (15) is moved so as to bring the substantially central slit (28) into contact with the protrusion (21) so as to facilitate a substantially clean burst. The protrusion (21) may have a hemi-cylindrical shape, about .5 inches (1.25 CM) in diameter, and is of, or coated by, an adhesive release material. |
