Production of a ceramic mixed oxide comprises (a) preparing a powder of at least two metals, which are oxidized in an oxygen-containing atmosphere at elevated temperature; (b) mixing the powder to form a metal powder mixture; and (c) heating in the oxygen-containing atmosphere to a temperature at which the mixed oxide is formed from the metal powder mixture. Preferred Features: The metals are lead and tin. A further metal, preferably niobium, tantalum or tungsten, is used.
