A fleet management system for managing a fleet of vehicles uses an identification reader that reads identifying information of a plurality of items and stores the identifying information along with a read time. A storage unit (100) stores the identifying information and the read time. A processor (10) identifies each of the plurality of items (20, 30, 40, 50) based on the identifying information read by the identification reader and manipulates the identifying information and the read time in a plurality of ways to result in various fleet management information (300, 400, 600, 800).
