The device for reducing atmospheric pollution due to exhaust gases comprises a cylindrical casing (2) provided with an inlet (4) for the exhaust gases to be purified and an outlet (6) for the purified exhaust gases; a tubular purification cartridge (8) which is housed inside the casing (2), is set between the inlet (4) and the outlet (6), and comprises mineral fibres (41) which in turn comprise at least 70 wt % of silicon dioxide and at least one of the following metals: platinum in an amount from 0.001 to 0.5 g per gram of fibre, rhodium in an amount of from 0.00003 to 0.05 g per gram of fibre, and palladium in an amount of from 0.00003 to 0.5 g per gram of fibre.
