Nitrogenous organic materials are dyed or printed by impregnating or printing the material with an optionally thickened aqueous dye liquor containing at least one dyestuff having affinity for the material, at temperatures below the drawing temperature of the dyestuff and finishing the process by a heat treatment the dye liquor containing 0.5-10% by weight of a mixture of a amides of aliphatic monocarboxylic acids having 8-14 carbon atoms or mixtures of such acids with primary or secondary amines containing at least one hydroxyalkyl group having 2 or 3 carbon atoms and b) water soluble condensation products of from 1-2 equivalents of an aliphatic aldehyde having 1 or 2 carbon atoms and 2 equivalents of an aryl sulphonic acid or a mixture of such acids or their soluble salts the weight ratio of amides to condensation products being 1:1 to 5:1. In particular coconut oil fatty acid amides are employed, and as aldehydes acetaldehyde, glyoxal, formaldehyde or compounds which give off such aldehydes are used with sulphonic acids of toluene, xylene, naphthalene, and mixtures thereof. Wool, nylon, acrylonitrile and silk are specified as nitrogen containing organic materials preferably dyed with 2:1 dye metal complexes in acid solution.</p> |
