The invention is concerned with a method for deriving a desired signal from a received signal comprising the desired signal and unwanted signals. The desired signal is filtered from the received signal. In the method, a signal is received as a combination of the desired signal and unwanted signals. The received signal is filtered in parallel through different filters, e.g. different filters of a filter bank, and the radio channel is estimated individually for each filtered signal. The signal that is estimated to give the best performance is chosen and demodulated. The invention is also concerned with a receiver to carry out the method. <IMAGE>
