The load handling vehicle has at least one hydraulic cylinder (5) and at least one hydraulic pump (2a) driven by an electric motor (1a) for vertical movement of the load lifting device. The suction side of the pump is coupled to the hydraulic cylinder, with control of the lifting and lowering of the load via a continuously adjustable electrical switch element in conjunction with an electrical pulse control stage. Independent claims are also included for a load lifting and lowering method for a load handling vehicle.
