PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide both a method which a new stitch can be formed without producing holes which are visually interfering the view when forming stitches in a knitted fabric and an apparatus therefor. SOLUTION: This method for forming a new stitch 8 on a knitting machine comprises taking over a stitch 7 hooked on a needle 3 by a transferring element 5 attached to the needle 3, subsequently passing the new stitch 8 through the stitch 7 hooked on the transferring element 5 and thereby forming the two stitched 7 and 8 from the one stitch 7 hooked on the needle 3 in the method for forming the new stitch 8 on the knitting machine.
