PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drum type washing machine improved in the safety thereof. SOLUTION: This drum type washing machine is provided with an outer case 1 having a washing throw-in port 1a opened in a front surface and forming side surfaces, a cylindrical water tub 4 with a bottom horizontally arranged inside the outer case 1 and having an opening part opened at a part opposite to the washing throw-in port, a drum 5 supported freely to be rotated inside the water tub 4, and a shield plate 36 arranged under a top plate 31 and formed of a fire-resistant member made of metal and the melamine resin or the like.
