The present invention provides a threaded tamper-evident cap (30) adapted for application to a cooperating container neck finish (10). The tamper evident band (34) contains a circumferential flange (40) sized, shaped and configured to ride over the top surface of a cooperating bottleneck flange (21) during the installation so as to permit alignment of the cap for proper thread engagement prior to thread contact, and to then engage with the bottleneck flange to assist in retaining the closure after installation. The bottom surface of the closure disk contains a circumferential flange (48) which seals the container by contact with the top surface (17) of the bottleneck, while a cooperating flange (41) located below the intersection of the closure disk and depending flange but above the closure thread(s) (43) acts to form a seal with the outer surface of the bottleneck. The invention also provides a novel neck finish (10) for a container adopted for use with said cap. |
