PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a strut rod device for earth retaining panels which is able to be turned aside and shunted, when a pipe to be buried in the earth is descended, to a position along the earth retaining panel for use in digging out ditches, so that it can be contracted safely, easily and simply. SOLUTION: A strut rod device 1 for earth retaining panels 3, 3 comprises a swiveling support section 8 which rotatably supports one end of the shore strut rod 4, a first connecting device 7b which connects the swiveling support section 8 to the earth retaining panel 3, a second connecting device 7a which connects another opposite end of the shore strut rod 4 to the earth retaining panel 3, a hydraulic cylinder 5, and a threadedly expanding and contracting device 6. When water pressure inside of the hydraulic cylinder 5 is removed, a compression spring 12 provided inside the hydraulic cylinder 5 contracts the hydraulic cylinder 5 and shortens the shore strut rod 4. By hooking or unhooking an engaging hook 66 of the second connecting device 7a to a pin 84 to be hooked which is mounted protuberantly from the counter-end of the shore strut rod 4, the counter-end of the shore strut rod 4 can be coupled on to or uncoupled from the second connecting device 7a.
