PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of decomposing unsaturated carboxylic acid copolymers without adversely affecting natural environment. SOLUTION: The method of decomposing unsaturated carboxylic acid copolymers comprises bringing unsaturated carboxylic acid copolymers having an aromatic ring introduced into the polymer chain obtained by copolymerizing one or more unsaturated carboxylic acids such as acrylic acid and maleic acid with an oxygen-containing aromatic compound such as hydroquinone into contact with a white putrifiable fungus or an enzyme produced by a white putrifiable fungus.
