PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a 2-alkyl-2-adamantanol from adamantanone as a raw material in a high yield. SOLUTION: In producing the 2-alkyl-2-adamantanol by alkylating adamantanone with a Grignard reagent, this method for producing the 2-alkyl-2- adamantanol is to employ a compound such as tetrabutylammonium bromide, tetraethylphosphonium bromide or hexamethylphosphoric triamide which has the action of inhibiting, restraining, dissociating or weakening the association of the Grignard reagent and/or enhancing the nucleophilicity of an alkyl group.
