PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an economical method for purifying 1,3-butylene glycol in high yield. SOLUTION: Acetaldols are catalytically hydrogenated in the presence of a catalyst to produce crude 1,3-butylene glycol. Then, the resultant crude reaction mixture is made basic and the alcohols are distilled off, and the remaining is subjected to distillation to collect the objective purified 1,3-butylene glycol. |
