PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an aldehyde in good operational efficiency by controlling a catalyst poisoning material in an oxo reaction. SOLUTION: This method for reacting an olefinically unsaturated compound with carbon monoxide and hydrogen in the presence of a hydroformylation catalyst containing a group VIII transition metal in the periodic table and an organic phosphorus compound comprises controlling the amount of hydrogen halide mixed with the reaction system as the impurities so that the molar ratio thereof to the group VIII transition metal included in a catalyst-containing liquid may be <=0.9.
