PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a cyclic oligomer-reducing rate for the production of a polyester in a system where a germanium compound and a silica compound coexist. SOLUTION: This method for producing the polyester, characterized by using an alkali metal compound, a germanium compound and a silica compound in specific amounts, respectively.
