PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a preparation method of a novel olefin polymerization catalyst which shows a sufficient olefin polymerization activity without using an expensive methylaluminoxane and an organic boron and which can be applied to the existing olefin polymerization process without problems and an olefin polymer. SOLUTION: The olefin polymerization catalyst contains an olefin polymerization solid catalyst component (A) obtained by contacting a solid component (a-1) containing magnesium and a halogen as essential components with a complex of a group VIII to X transition metal in the periodic table (a-2) and an organoaluminium compound (B) and the preparation method of an olefin polymer uses the catalyst.
