The invention relates to a control system for an industrial sewing machine, comprising a motor control unit, which is situated in or on the sewing machine head, and a sewing process control unit which is accommodated in a special operating part, said operating part and said motor control unit being connected through a bidirectional interface. Actuators comprising solenoids and digital switch inputs, such as thread wipers, thread clippers and similar, are driven by the control system. According to the invention, the motor control unit (17) controls the running up and running down and the speed of the motor (19), while the actuators are driven separately through a serial bus.
