PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the capacity of an intermediately accumulating device. SOLUTION: Documents or document sets 93, 95, 97 are delivered to a system at the downstream side independently from a supply cycle. A carrying device has two independently driven carrying units. The carrying units 45, 46 on the supply side are always driven and so carried materials to be delivered from the system at the upstream side can be carried into the device at once. On the contrary, the carrying units provided at the discharge side is periodically driven. The carried materials 93, 95, 97 as much as required by the system at the downstream side are supplied to the system at the downstream side via the periodically driven carrying units. Since the carrying units 45, 46 are always driven at the supply side, the carried materials can be supplied more than discharged at the discharge side. The supply/takeout out of the carried materials are carried out and the creation of voids in the device between documents is avoided when the individual document set contains a different number of paper in the system at the upstream side.
