The fastness properties of dyed cellulosic materials are improved by impregnating the materials with an aqueous liquor containing at least 1% by weight of a salt or quaternary ammonium compound of a polymer or copolymer of a vinylimidazole at a temperature of 70-90 DEG C. and then drying the material. The drying process may be at room or elevated temperature and may be effected by steaming which may be followed by a drying process if drying is not complete. The Examples provide after-treatments of materials dyed with direct and reactive dyes processes in which in addition to the aforesaid polymer or copolymer a compound containing at least 2 groups H2C= CU-CO- is used in alkaline conditions.
