PURPOSE: A hardware and associated software for emulating the storage space of a remote computer system to a local disk drive is provided to recognize a remote hard disk as a local hard disk using an EIDE interface module or an SCSI interface module, as connected to a server software which provides a remote storage space using a network interface module. CONSTITUTION: If system booting is started(L1), hardware initializing is carried out. If a network interface card is initialized, a ROM containing a firmware emulates the signal an IBM compatible main board sends to the network interface card to initialize hardware(L2) and recognizes the network interface card as a hard disk(L3). If hardware initializing is finished(L4), the firmware of ROM reads the boot sector of the hard disk to attempt OS loading. At this moment, the firmware of the ROM requests a user to input a server address, a user ID and a password to access a server software having a remote storage space(L5). If the network to the server software is connected, the firmware maps the hard disk of the server software to the user's local hard disk(L10).
