PURPOSE: A wire rope tester using a GMI valve type magnetic sensor is provided to easily detect a defect of a wire rope and reduce the weight of the wire rope tester. CONSTITUTION: A wire rope tester using a GMI(Giant Magneto-Impedance) valve type magnetic sensor includes the GMI valve type magnetic sensor, a device for generating alternating current and amplifying detected signal, a device for displaying the detected signal, and a control device, so that alternating current voltage is applied to the magnetic sensor, the signal returned from the magnetic sensor is compared with the originally applied signal, the difference in the signals is amplified for detecting an abnormal signal sensed by the magnetic sensor.
