1,138,351. Adipic acid. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 12 May, 1966 [24 June, 1965], No. 26820/65. Heading C2C. [Also in Division B1] Adipic acid is recovered from a mixture with a major proportion of other carboxylic acids by continuously passing molten mixture from a first zone to a second zone, wherein partial crystallization takes place, and returning the mother liquors from the second zone to the first zone. The process may take place in a column with differential heating so that the upper part is the first zone and the lower, the second zone and the passage of the molten mass is by gentle agitation for instance by a spiral stirrer or pulsator. Suitable apparatus is described and used to separate the adipic acid from succinic and glutaric acids. The adipic enriched mixture may be recrystallized from water to separate pure adipic acid. |
