PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a navigation system capable of reducing the driving time of a map read means for reading map data. SOLUTION: This navigation system is provided with the map read means 12 for reading the map data of a range capable of displaying a present spot from a map data supply source and a control means 11 for commanding drive stoppage to the map read means 12 after reading the map data, judging whether or not the present spot moves to the outer side of the read range and commanding drive start to the read means 12 at the time of judging that the present spot moves to the outer side of the read range.
