PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the cycle life characteristic of a battery by securing a liquid channel in the case of expansion at the time of inserting lithium. SOLUTION: The nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery is composed of a positive electrode that is able to occlude and discharge both nonaqueous electrolyte and lithium, and an alloy negative electrode that contains silicon as a constituent element. The alloy negative electrode is made of compound particles of graphite and carbon which are burned and hardened so as to form a specific volume with small cavities.
