PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable image output with the same printing schedule and image quality, even if a reading mode of an original is changed. SOLUTION: This image reader is provided with an original-placing means, on which an original is placed and a scanning means for scanning an original placed on an original placing means, in an image input part 1 and provided with a first read control means for reading the image of the original by transferring the scan means, a second reading control means to read the image of the original as transporting the original at a state that the scanning means is arranged at a prescribed reading position and a scanning speed setting means for setting transport speed of the original by the second reading control means as equal to or higher than traveling speed of the scanning means by the first reading control means, in a CUP 2 and a control part 5.
