PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an environment preservation device for a river composed of an artificial water grass aiming at revetment, while preserving environment, promoting the laying eggs of fishes by the rearing of a riverside alga field and forming and ensuring a safety refuge for a fry and a young fish. SOLUTION: The environment preservation device for the river is composed of a netted bag body (5), which is laid on a river bed (G) and in which the inside is filled with pebble-like weights (S), and the artificial water grasses (1), in which bottom sections are installed detachably to linear bodies (4) forming the netted bag body (5) by holding pieces (10), the artificial water grasses (1) consist of a large number of slender ribboned thalluses (9), and the holding pieces (10) are formed into cylindrical shapes, in which upper and lower sections have recessed sections respectively, and the bottom sections of the thalluses (9) are fixed by the upper recessed sections and the holding pieces are retained to the linear bodies (4) in the lower recessed sections.
