PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel pressure setting method of a direct injection gasoline engine for properly injecting fuel via an injector by taking into consideration a change in the combustion chamber inside effective compression ratio generated when applying variable valve timing control. SOLUTION: This fuel pressure setting method is composed of an engine torque-engine speed detecting stage, a first stratified mode fuel pressure value setting stage, a weight factor operation stage for arithmetically operating a weight factor from the change ratio by detecting combustion chamber inside effective pressure to a variable intake valve sealed section at a specific interval, a correcting stratified mode fuel pressure value calculating stage for multiplying and correcting the weight factor to a first stratified mode fuel pressure value an actual fuel pressure value comparing stage for comparing a correction stratified mode fuel pressure value with an actual fuel pressure value and the final fuel pressure value calculating stage for determining the final fuel pressure value by a comparing result in the actual fuel pressure value comparing stage.
