EPICYCLOIDAL LIGHT GUIDE AND ILLUMINATING APPARATUS

PURPOSE: An epicycloidal light guide and illuminating apparatus is provided to achieve an improved efficiency and reduce manufacturing cost by eliminating the necessity of using an expensive lens or prism. CONSTITUTION: A light guide is characterized in that the guide has a cross section with an epicycloidal curve(21) so as to improve power and luminescence characteristics. The cross section of the guide is partially made up of a material which allows light to exit by utilizing a light transmitting material or prism, and the other part of the cross section is constituted by a reflector plate(22) having a high reflectivity. An illuminating apparatus includes a light source, and an epicycloidal guide which is extended from the light source and has a partially transparent side surface and cross section with epicycloidal curve.
