PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic camera and its control method which reduce the power consumption in a signal processing part. SOLUTION: An imaging device 16 which picks up an object image to output a picture signal representing the object image and a CDS/GCA 20 which takes the picture signal outputted from the image pickup device 16 as the input to process the picture signal are provided, and a variable constant current source is used to change the power consumption of the CDS/GCA 20 in accordance with the final output state (a recording medium 32, a liquid crystal monitor 28, and a TV output terminal 38) of the picture signal in a digital still camera 10.
