PURPOSE: A device and a method for recording/reproducing data are provided to improve error rate through using a dummy synchronous block in an error correction decoding by copying as data of effective synchronous blocks before and after the dummy synchronous block. CONSTITUTION: A memory control unit inserts a dummy packet to a smooth buffer in withdrawing a data in the smooth buffer. Herein, dummy marks are marked in header portions of synchronous blocks. A dummy processor detects dummy synchronous block in the synchronous block. Then, a last effective synchronous block is stored in a dummy memory unit. A counter unit counts number of continuous dummy synchronous blocks. The dummy processor stores a continuous effective synchronous block in the dummy memory unit while dividing the number of counted dummy synchronous blocks into half. Then, data in the last effective synchronous blocks before and after the dummy synchronous block are copied in upper and lower halves of the dummy synchronous blocks while marking dummy marks in header data units. Effectiveness of the dummy synchronous blocks is decided according to the dummy marks.
