PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To bring a desired subject into focus with easy operation though troublesome operation is performed to bring the desired subject into focus in the case of bringing a subject different from the intended subject into focus by automatic focusing action. SOLUTION: This device is provided with an image pickup lens for picking up the image of a subject, an imaging device for photoelectrically transducing the optical signal of a subject image obtained from the lens, a camera control circuit outputting a video signal by performing a prescribed signal processing to output from the imaging device, a focus signal detection means for generating a focus signal corresponding to the focusing state of the lens by extracting a prescribed frequency component from the video signal, and a focus control means for automatically controlling the focusing mechanism of the lens to a focusing point by monitoring the focus signal and judging the change or the like of the focus signal, and is provided with a means for performing automatic focusing in a prescribed focusing range ordinarily and enabling a photographer to vary and set a focusing range or a focusing initial position or both of the range and the initial position. When setting is performed, automatic focusing is performed according to the setting. |
