PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wavelength multiplexer/demultiplexer which is used in wavelength multiple optical fiber transmission, separates even number waves and odd number waves in wavelength multiple light or composites them. SOLUTION: Incident light beams are divided a polarizing beam splitter 21 and the divided light beams are made incident on PMFs 22, 23. Such an arrangement is taken that linear polarizing light is made incident in the bearing of 45 deg. to main axes of the PMFs 22, 23. Circular polarizing outputs different in polarizing direction are obtained in accordance with cyclic wavelengths of incident light by setting the lengths of the PMFs 22, 23 to a prescribed value. These outputs are demultiplexed by Fresnel prisms 24, 25, and the even number waves and the odd number waves are separated by multiplexing light beams different in rotational direction by Fresnel prisms 26, 27 again. |
