PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce unwanted radiation of electromagnetic waves. SOLUTION: This image reader is provided with signal processing circuits, such as an analog signal processing circuit and an A/D conversion circuit for performing various signal processing for an image signal read from an original. Clock pulses of the signal processing circuits are generated by a timing generating circuit 21. The timing generating circuit 21 is provided with an oscillator 31 and a timing generating circuit 33 to generate clock pulses to take operation timing of a CCD and the signal processing circuits from the output of the oscillator 31. In addition, the output of the oscillator 31 is subjected to frequency spreading by a frequency spread device 32.
