PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metal carrier for a catalytic converter that is protected against cell dislodgment in its core due to a capillary brazing rise during heat treatment. SOLUTION: The metal carrier for a catalytic converter is so designed that corrugated plates 1 and flat plates 3 of sheet metal are alternately superposed and rolled in multiple circles into a core 5, whose periphery on the exhaust gas outflow side is rolled with a brazing foil material 7, and that the assembly is pressed into an outer cylinder 15 of metal and subjected to heat treatment whereby the corrugated and flat plates 1 and 3 are diffusely joined and the internal surface of the outer cylinder 15 and the external surface of the core 5 are soldered by a brazing material 7-1. The internal surface of the outer cylinder 15 has a groove 19 for preventing a capillary brazing rise throughout the circumference located on the exhaust gas inflow side of the junction with the core 5.
