THIN FILM MAGNETIC HEAD AND METHOD OF MANUFACTURING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thin film magnetic head reproducing signals without noise due to the magnetostriction of an upper shielding layer and suitable toward the higher recording density. SOLUTION: The upper shielding layer is constituted of a Ni-Fe alloy base film formed by sputter-deposition and a Ni-Fe alloy plating film formed on the base film by electroplating and the distribution of the composition ratio of Fe in the direction of the thickness of the upper shielding layer is specified to be 17-19 mass %.
