<p>A composition (I) for cosmetic use in activating cellular respiration contains unicellular algae of genus Emiliana, Odontella, Asterionella or Fragilaria and (B) hemocyanin from a marine invertebrate, mollusc or arthropod. An independent claim is included for cosmetic formulations containing (I). ACTIVITY : Dermatological. MECHANISM OF ACTION : Cellular respiration activator. In tests in cultured human dermal fibroblasts, addition of 0.01 wt. % of a mixture of 63.33 wt. % aqueous dispersion of Emiliana huxleyi algae (3.5 x 106> cells per ml), 16.67% hemolymph extract (14.3 mg/ml protein; 7 mg/ml hemocyanin) and 20.0% 2-methyl-1,3-propane diol increased the (NAD+>)/(NADH) ratio to 167% of that in controls, demonstrating strong activation of cellular respiration.</p> |
