PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To arrange an environment where an animal is easy to live and maintain a natural aspect by greening in a black for an environmental maintenance retaining wall piled on the slope of a river and constructing the retaining wall. SOLUTION: A hook part 6 is formed on the rear face of a rectangular parallelepiped block body 2. A hollow part 3 is formed to vertically penetrate the center of the block body 2, and groove parts 4, 5 are formed to vertically penetrate both the right and left sides of the block body 2 respectively. A semi- circular cutout part 7 is formed to communicate with the hollow part 3 in the center of the upper part of the front of the block body 2, and quarter- circular cutout parts 8, 9 are formed to communicate with the groove parts 4, 5 on both the right and left ends of the lower part of the front of the block body 2 respectively. When a number of the blocks 1 for the environmental maintenance retaining wall are piled flatly or in the form of a valley, and the mutually right and left adjacent groove parts 4, 5 of the block 1 for the environmental retaining wall are oppositely contacted to form a hollow. At the same time, the mutually vertically right and left adjacent cutout parts 7, 8, 9 of the block 1 for the environmental maintenance retaining wall are cooperated to from an internal and external communicating hole.
