PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming device in which the life of an image carrier is prolonged by restraining the image carrier from being worn by a primary transfer roller abutting on the image carrier through an intermediate transfer belt or the like. SOLUTION: The primary transfer rollers 5Y, 5M, 5C and 5K disposed inside the intermediate transfer belt 6 are provided with a rocking mechanism respectively, and installed to freely come into contact with/be separated from photoreceptor drums 1Y, 1M, 1C and 1K through the belt 6 independently. Before a toner image developed on the drum 1 according to information on a used color based on a video signal from an image signal reaches a primary transfer position at the time of forming an image, only the transfer roller 5 at the primary transfer position of the drum 1 where the toner image is developed is rocked and abuts on the drum 1 through the belt 6, so that the toner image on the drum 1 is primarily transferred to the belt 6. The other roller 5 at the primary transfer position is not rocked.
