PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate an after-treatment in the event that an egg to be inspected is broken when passing through a light projector and a light receiver, thus reducing the time required for the after-treatment. SOLUTION: Protective covers 22 and 32 for covering, respectively, the outsides of the light projector 21 and the light receiver 31 on an inspection table 10 at the top of a base are installed by engagement of a guide rail 6 secured to their insides with a guide member 5 fixed on top of the inspection table 10. Sliding of the guide member 5 using the guide rail 6 as a guide causes the protective covers to slide on the inspection table 10, enabling the span between the opposite surfaces of the protective covers 22 and 32 to be increased.
