PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data processor and a data processing method in which unauthorized use of contents data id excluded by identifying an unauthorized recording reproducing device. SOLUTION: A list of unauthorized devices having constitution data of identifier indicating unauthorized reproducing devices as header information of contents data is stored and provided together with the contents. A data processor using the contents data performs a collating process between the entries included in the unauthorized device list in the header information and own recording and reproducing device identifier as the step prior to perform various processed such as down loading of the contents data and a reproducing. When a coincident entry exists, succeeding processes such as the down loading and the reproducing are stopped. Furthermore, fraudulent of the list itself is prevented because unauthorized device list ckeck values in the contents data are included in the header.
