The method has the rail vehicle fed along a curved track section, so that each rail carriage chassis rotates about an axis relative to the corresponding end of the rail carriage, with detection of the force transverse to the travel direction of the rail vehicle at one or more measuring points, e.g. via sensors (S1,S3) detecting the track rail deformation, for calculation of the resetting force provided by the rotation damping. An independent claim for a device for measuring the rotation damping characteristics of a chassis for a rail vehicle carriage is also included.
